Volunteer
Help run the North Star Syrup Works! You can learn to process sap into syrup using ABFC's evaporator. We need volunteers from early April to mid-May. Volunteers begin by taking a short training course. Volunteers then shadow and assist the Sugar Master.

Do you live by a school that is participating in TIS? You can help those students by transporting sap to ABFCs Sugar Shack (1760 Westwood Way). Contact either the school or ABFC.

Don't have that much time? How about baking some birch treats for our visiting classes! We'll provide the syrup if you have time to make some treats.

Interested in helping with sales of our syrup? ABFC needs help staffing our booth at the Farmers Market on Saturdays June - September 9am - 4pm.

Teach
All interested teachers are welcome to contact ABFC to participate in the Tapping Into Spring Teacher Training Course and utilize the TIS curriculum. We have equipment and supplies for sale and limited equipment for checking out. Teachers are also encouraged to contact the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District Media Services Office to check out one of the five kits ABFC placed there in Fall 2003.

Take TIS Home
If you are interested in tapping birch trees at home, ABFC offers a Backyard Birch Syrup Making class through the FNSBSD Community Schools Program (check the Spring class schedule). ABFC also published a beginner Backyard Birch Syruping manual that is for sale with or without a tapping kit.
