I
have lived in Alaska since 1971. In that time I have developed
a keen interest in natural resource issues. Before I arrived
in Fairbanks, I looked for a long time for an organization
like the Alaska Boreal Forest Council that I could work
for and be happy volunteering for. Living in a state like
Alaska, that is so reliant on resource extraction to fuel
its economy, we often see the worst of both extremes when
it comes to exploiting our natural resources. I believe
in a balanced approach to issues and that is what ABFC promises.
I bring a diverse background to ABFC. I worked in the custodial
and construction trades before I returned to school. I only
intended to earn an Associates degree in Paralegal Studies,
but found myself a short while later working on a Master's
degree in Resource Economics at the University of Alaska
Fairbanks. I started with ABFC in 2001 as a VISTA volunteer
working on the Forest Use Survey and have been involved
as much as possible since then.
